Juniors
Redcliffe Tri Club run a junior program that caters for all school age children, primary and secondary (age 5 and up) no matter what their individual level of fitness or skills. Our aim is to provide children with a safe environment in which to experience triathlon and to learn essential triathlon skills. Our members come from all over the Moreton Bay Shire including North Brisbane and Bribie Island.
Our club will provide access to safe training environments where the skills of triathlon will be taught by qualified, experienced triathlon coaches. Younger junior members will also be able to participate in non-competitive races throughout the triathlon season where the emphasis is on having a go. These races have various distances depending on the child's / young person's ability and are designed that all will be able to finish the race eg Weetbix Kids Race, Supa kidz races.
Our junior program also aims to develop young people in their triathlon ability and give them opportunities to progress as far in the sport as they would like to go. We have members that have competed for Qld in the National Secondary Schools Triathlon, and currently have a number of members that are a part of the Qld Triathlon Junior Development Squad. We also have club members that are currently in and have been a part of the Qld Junior Emerging Talent Squad (JETS).
All juniors are taught basic and advanced bike handling skills, racing skills, transition skills, road riding skills, running skills and where suitable we link them into established swimming squads in their local area to develop their swimming ability (see swimming notes on training page). We also teach them open water skills and develop and practice race techniques so they feel confident when they are racing. Programs are available for those who are interested in racing competitively and are arranged by discussion with the coaches.
All that is needed for training is running shoes, a bike (any sort – road, mountain, dragstar) that has working brakes, a well fitting helmet, and for the swimming / transition sessions you will need togs, swim cap and goggles. Make sure you bring a water bottle and hat with you to each session also.
For details of training sessions please go to our Training Page. All junior sessions cost $3 per session if they are coached by Mary, or $4 if they are coached by GB. Brick sessions cost $4. Pay as you attend.
